CW’s “Supergirl” To End Next Season

The CW, Warner Bros. TV and Berlanti Productions have announced that the Melissa Benoist-led “Supergirl” TV series will come to an end with the upcoming sixth season in 2021.

This marks only the second series in the CW’s DC Arrowverse to come to an end following “Arrow” itself closing up shop after eight seasons late last year.

Production on all 2020-21 broadcast series was delayed by the coronavirus pandemic, the series going later anyway to accommodate the pregnancy of star Benoist. Shooting now begins in Vancouver next week, pending a deal with the local unions and will initially be filming around Benoist who will join the production later.

Combined with downward ratings those involved have opted to end the show with a longer twenty-episode final season. Benoist debuted in the role on CBS in 2015.
