ABC is developing “Old-ish,” a third single-camera comedy series spinoff from Kenya Barris’ Emmy-nominated “Black-ish”. Barris will pen the script and exec produce alongside Fishburne, Anderson and E. Brian Dobbins.
Laurence Fishburne and Jenifer Lewis will reprise their roles as Earl “Pops” Johnson and Ruby Johnson, parents of Anthony Anderson’s Dre, in the series. Here they give love a second chance, but when they move to a rapidly gentrifying neighborhood of L.A., they’ll meet characters who represent the old and new faces of the community as they try to make it work as a married couple. Again.
Fishburne has executive produced “Black-ish” since the start and recurred on nearly half of the show’s 141 episodes to date. Lewis went from recurring in the first season to a regular in the second. The series joins Freeform’s young-skewing “Grown-ish” and ABC’s 1980s prequel-set “Mixed-ish” in the line-up.
