Queen Elizabeth A Big “Flash Gordon” Fan

The one and only Brian Blessed has revealed that Mike Hodges’ 1980 sci-fi camp classic “Flash Gordon” is a very popular title in Queen Elizabeth II’s household.

The beloved 83-year-old actor, who plays Prince Vultan in the film, spoke with Yahoo Movies UK as part of a 40th anniversary celebration of the film saying one of his most iconic lines from the movie is the one he gets asked to repeat the most be it fans or world leaders.

“Everywhere I go, they all want me to say ‘Gordon’s alive!’. The butcher, the baker, the candlestick maker, horses and queens, and Prime Ministers, they all want me to say ‘Gordon’s alive!’, it’s their favourite film. The Queen, it’s her favourite film, she watches it with her grandchildren every Christmas.”

Blessed then approximated the Queen’s voice to repeat what she asked him:

“You know, we watch Flash Gordon all the time, me and the grandchildren. And if you don’t mind, I’ve got the grandchildren here, would you mind saying ‘Gordon’s alive?'”

Blessed was made an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in 2016 for services to the arts and charity and was presented with the honour by the Queen.
