Hans Zimmer Extends Netflix’s ‘Ta-Dum’

Netflix’s signature ‘ta-dum’ two second sound is instantly identifiable and works perfect for television. When it comes to films though, that minimalist approach comes off a little too abrupt – especially as every other studio’s logos run for about 8-20 seconds.

Now the company has hired veteran film composer Hans Zimmer (“The Dark Knight,” “Gladiator,” “Inception”) to come up with an extended and much larger scale version of that signature sound, making it a much more classic orchestral piece using the two tone base as the heart of a more swirling and now 16 second long introduction.

The new extended Netflix logo theme, and accompanying graphics, have gone online and will likely be attached to all future Netflix feature film productions – especially any that get the opportunity to play on the remaining big screens in the future.

Zimmer’s other scoring work meanwhile will be heard on all three major post-“Tenet” blockbusters still currently scheduled for 2020 – “No Time to Die,” “Wonder Woman 1984” and “Dune”. He’s also working on 2021 films like “The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run,” “Top Gun: Maverick” and “Space Jam: A New Legacy”.
