When HBO ditched its originally planned “Game of Thrones” prequel spin-off series for another, one much closer to the time period of its progenitor, what to expect of the series came a little more into focus.
Titled “House of the Dragon,” the new series is set three centuries earlier and will delve into the history of House Targaryen. The news allows for the producers to delve into some of the backstory not seen in the series that has been a part of George R. R. Martin’s “A Song of Ice and Fire” book series.
A new report has gone up at CBR this week which indicates that the series is on the hunt for its two female leads – one will be the character of Rhaenyra Targaryen, the other being Alicent Hightower.
In the lore, the beautiful Rhaenyra attempts to usurp the Iron Throne from her brother Aegon II in the war known as the Dance of Dragons. Alicent is her step-mother and has a bitter rivalry with her. Martin co-created the ten-episode first season with Ryan Condal with the project expected to go to air in 2022.
