Microsoft has announced an official date of Thursday July 23rd at 9am US-PT for the upcoming Xbox Games Showcase presentation. The event is expected to feature Xbox Series X’s flagship launch titles including “Halo Infinite” and other first-party titles.
It marks the first major move on Microsoft’s part since May’s disappointing Xbox 20/20 “gameplay showcase” which displayed third-party titles coming to multiple platforms – including the Xbox Series X – but showed off very little to no gameplay from those titles. The backlash was large and vocal.
It marked a surprising stumble from the company who otherwise had been handling its marketing rollout for its next-gen console very smoothly. This also marks Microsoft’s first move with the console since Sony unveiled the PlayStation 5 console at its presentation of the PS5’s first and third party titles last month including a slew of new and original IP along with a few notable sequels and spin-offs and plenty of gameplay footage.
Microsoft thus has a lot riding on this and so will hopefully bring more than just another “Halo” entry to the table with its presentation – one that could get people talking again if it does the one thing neither company has done yet and reveal a launch price and/or specific date.
