ABKCO Films has announced “Alejandro Jodorowsky: 4K Restoration Collection,” a retrospective Blu-ray box-set of three of the acclaimed Chilean filmmaker’s earliest features, one of his short films, and his newest documentary “Psychomagic, A Healing Heart” which follows his theory of trauma therapy.
The now 91-year-old Jodorowsky has supervised the color correction of the 4K restorations of his essential films using the original 35mm elements. His features “Fando y Lis,” “El Topo” and “The Holy Mountain” are included along with his 1957 short film “Le Cravate”.
His psychedelic western “El Topo” will be presented in both the 1:33 aspect ratio as it was shown in theaters in 1970, and in 1.85:1 widescreen for the first time which is the way Jodorowsky originally envisioned the film.
The box set will be available worldwide and features a book with photos and essays as well as newly filmed interviews with Jodorowsky and long time personal assistant Pablo Leder. There’s also commentary tracks, new introductions by Columbia University professor Richard Pena, a mini-documentary “A to Z of The Holy Mountain” narrated by Jodorowsky biographer Ben Cobb, and CD soundtracks for “El Topo” and “The Holy Mountain”.
In addition, Alamo Drafthouse will bring “Psychomagic, A Healing Heart” to North American audiences via its Alamo on Demand platform on August 7th.
