Production on The CW’s various shows like “The Flash,” “Batwoman,” “Supergirl,” “Riverdale” and the final batch of “Supernatural” episodes could resume imminently.
Deadline reports that the British Columbia government’s new COVID-19 production-restart plans means filming in Vancouver on those shows could begin again essentially right away. However most will wait until some guidelines by CreativeBC are published mid-June and even then most likely won’t resume filming until after Canada Day on July 1st at the earliest.
The report comes as two of those aforementioned series have been making headlines today. First up, “Riverdale” star Vanessa Morgan is reportedly being eyed to replace Ruby Rose as the lead in The CW’s “Batwoman”.
The Cinema Spot reported on the potential casting, suggesting Morgan will play the role of the new character Ryan Wilder. Morgan is currently the only black lead on “Riverdale” and recently called out the series for sidelining black characters.
The other series also making news is “The Flash” following the revelation of actor Hartley Sawyer’s firing yesterday for a series of racist and misogynistic old tweets. Sawyer played Ralph Dibny/Elongated Man for the past three seasons on the show alongside leading man Grant Gustin as Barry Allen/The Flash.
Gustin has now spoken up on Instagram, saying he’s fully backed the decision to fire Sawyer and showed support by reposting showrunner Eric Wallace’s statement on Sawyer’s firing. He added in a caption: “I don’t have much to add because Eric’s thoughts are stated so eloquently and powerfully. I will say I was shocked, saddened and angry when I saw the tweets. Words matter.”
