Tom Ellis has closed his deal to return as the title character for a sixth season of “Lucifer” on Netflix.
Back in February came word that Netflix had informed Warner Brothers that it was interested in extending the show’s lifespan beyond the previously announced fifth and ‘final’ season due later this year.
Within two weeks the studio closed new deals with co-showrunners Ildy Modrovich and Joe Henderson. The contract options for Lucifer’s supporting cast were expected to be picked up pending a deal with Ellis, and all parties had indicated that they want to return.
Then last month sources indicated the re-negotiations between Ellis and WBTV had hit a wall after the actor allegedly rejected the studio’s latest offer. Now though, following lengthy and difficult negotiations, Ellis has signed on to return and the rest of the cast are all set.
The plan had been for the show to go back into production in September on the sixth season, but the show will need to first finish filming its fifth season as the coronavirus pandemic shut down the series just four days out from the completion of filming.
The series has remained a strong performer for Netflix since its acquisition from FOX and at 77 episodes through five seasons, it is already one of the longest running Netflix original series.
