“The Haunting of Hill House” creator and “Doctor Sleep” director Mike Flanagan will adapt Christopher Pike’s 1994 novel “The Midnight Club” into a series for Netflix.
The story is set at Rotterdam Home, a hospice for terminally ill teenagers. A group of patients begin to gather together at midnight to share scary stories. They eventually make a pact that whichever of them dies first will contact the others from beyond the grave.
Flanagan’s ‘Hill House’ follow-up, “The Haunting of Bly Manor,” will incorporate not just Henry James’ iconic novel “Turn of the Screw” but elements of other James works into its season-long story. “Midnight Club” will do something similar for Pike’s other works.
Flanagan and Leah Fong (“The Magicians,” “Amazing Stories”) are creating and executive producing the series. Trevor Macy and Julia Bicknell will also executive produce while Elan Gale, James Flanagan, and Chinaka Hodge will also write on the series.
Flanagan is also the creator of the upcoming Netflix series “Midnight Mass” which suspended production due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic but will resume once it is given the all-clear. “The Haunting of Bly Manor” will hit the service later this year.
