Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings
Marvel Studios’ “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings” shut down production last month due to the coronavirus pandemic, with at least some of the cast like actor Simu Liu now stuck in quarantine not at home but in Sydney where they were to film.
Recently director Destin Daniel Cretton has shared a photo of the main cast members enjoying a night out on the town before the shutdown including Liu, Cretton, Tony Leung and Awkwafina. Australia is handling the pandemic better than a lot of other countries, but it remains unclear when production on the film will resume. [Source: Instagram]
The Last Dance
An average of 6.1 million viewers tuned in to watch the first two episodes of the highly-anticipated documentary series “Last Dance” across ESPN and ESPN 2. The ten-part series chronicled Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls in their quest to win their sixth NBA championship in eight years.
The debut episodes mark the two most-viewed original content broadcasts on ESPN’s networks since 2004. An average of 3.5 million who watched the episodes were between 18 and 49. ESPN had originally scheduled the series to air in June, but with the coronavirus pandemic suspending play the top executives decided to move up the program’s debut. [Source: Variety]
The Outpost
The Scott Eastwood-led war thriller “The Outpost” has been acquired by Screen Media with plans for a digital release on the July 4th holiday weekend. The film is based on Jake Tapper’s New York Times best-selling non-fiction book about The Battle of Kamdesh – the bloodiest American engagement of the Afghan War in 2009.
The story follows a tiny unit of US soldiers alone at the remote Combat Outpost Keating located deep in the valley of three mountains in Afghanistan as they battle to defend against an overwhelming force of Taliban fighters in a coordinated attack. [Source: Screen Media]
The Elephant Man
A new 4K restoration of David Lynch’s second feature, the acclaimed black-and-white 1980 film “The Elephant Man,” will be released later this year by StudioCanal who has decided to tease it with the opening ten minutes of the movie.
The story follows John Merrick (John Hurt), a man that is forced to take part in circus sideshows due to his disfigurement. That’s when he meets a surgeon (Anthony Hopkins) that hopes to help Merrick change his appearance. It was nominated for eight Oscars and launched Lynch’s mainstream career with “Dune,” “Blue Velvet,” “Wild at Heart” and “Twin Peaks” following in its wake.
