On Friday, Disney Pictures shuffled around its schedule so that the Marvel Studios ‘Phase 4’ film titles are effectively being moved back a position each from their originally intended release dates.
“Black Widow” will make its debut in November now and while it’s the first of the new batch of movies, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige says that it will answer some of the lingering questions regarding the events that take place between the films of the Infinity Saga.
Speaking with Total Film Magazine (via Screen Rant), he tells the outlet:
“[We have] hinted at [Natasha Romanoff’s backstory] throughout all the other films.. we approach it in a completely unexpected way. She’s been up to a lot all along – in between when we see her in the other movies – some of which will be surprising to people.”
We know the film is set partly between “Captain America: Civil War” and “Avengers: Infinity War,” but now it would appear it deals with other gaps in between as well.
Meanwhile former “Doctor Strange” director Scott Derrickson sees the major Hollywood film delays due to the coronavirus pandemic, including the Marvel films, as potentially having a good side effect. He tweeted the other day:
“The pushing of all these big tentpole release dates will increase their overall quality — more time for script & production design development. Blade Runner looks so amazing because Ridley Scott & his team took a year during the 80-81 actors & WGA strikes to perfect the visuals.”
Derrickson, of course, left development of “Doctor Strange in The Multiverse of Madness” in January with Sam Raimi in talks to replace him.
