“Rise of Skywalker” Scribe Talks Re-Writes

In a not particularly shocking revelation, “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker” co-writer Chris Terrio has revealed that he has never done as much re-write work on a script as much as he did with the latest “Star Wars” film.

While ‘Rise of Skywalker’ has proven divisive, one common criticism its supporters and detractors have is that it feels rushed, with writers Terrio and J.J. Abrams forced to frantically Frankenstein together an entry that had to incorporate the leftover Carrie Fisher footage they had, follow-up the formula smashing “The Last Jedi,” and cap off the sequel trilogy and the whole nine-film saga.

It’s a daunting task for even the best screenwriters. As part of a recent interview with Business Insider, Terrio discussed his time working on the final film of the Skywalker saga and said:

“I’ve never rewritten a film as much as this one. It’s like a tide. There’s a new script every morning. But we just keep going at it and going at it, loosely thinking that it’s not good enough. It’s never good enough.”

Considering Terrio had just gone through the craziness that was the “Justice League” film and all the retooling that came with that before working on ‘Skywalker’, for him to say this is telling. Terrio’s other work also includes Zack Snyder’s “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice,” Ben Affleck’s “Argo” and his own “Heights”.
