“Mutants” Director Not A “Phoenix” Fan

With his “The New Mutants” film delayed yet again, filmmaker Josh Boone has been having a hard time getting his “X-Men” spin-off film before audiences.

With Disney set to reboot the X-Men universe again after this, “New Mutants” will be the last of that ‘universe’ of X-Men films and Boone promises fans it won’t be the dog that was Simon Kinberg’s critical and box-office bomb “Dark Phoenix”.

Speaking with Empire (via CBR), Boone discussed how the delay of the film allowed him to see the reception “Dark Phoenix” received and he was glad he was able to get it out of the way:

“Look, you can only go up after ‘Dark Phoenix’. That’s not to say anything bad about the people involved, but it was what it was. Honestly, I feel less pressure now than I did ahead of [the first slated release date was three months before ‘Dark Phoenix’]. Because we’ve tested our movie so many times, and audiences have loved it.”

“Dark Phoenix” grossed $252 million worldwide on a $200 million budget. “The New Mutants” has yet to set a new release date.
