With film and television production grinding to a halt all over the world, some have elected to carry on such as the series finale of “The 100” and pilot for “DMZ” as both only have 2-3 days of filming left and so are taking necessary precautions.
One production that has stopped though, much to its director’s chagrin, is “The Card Counter”. With five days away from the completion of filming, the Oscar Isaac and Willem Dafoe-led feature has halted filming after one crew member came back with a positive test for coronavirus.
It doesn’t appear that the illness has affected anyone crucial to the production, but to be cautious the producers have pulled the plug for now and that has left the film’s director Paul Schrader a little miffed. The “First Reformed” helmer took to social media to vent his frustration, saying on Facebook:
“Production halted five days before wrap by my pussified producers because an LA day player had the coronavirus. Myself, I would have shot through hellfire rain to complete the film. I’m old and asthmatic, what better way to die than on the job?”
Schrader is famed for not filtering his responses, and upon posting a picture of himself with his two cast members – it quickly became a joke of a poor example of social distancing.
It’s not clear when production on the film will resume. Tiffany Haddish and Tye Sheridan co-star in the film about a would-be card shark setting out on a revenge plan against a military colonel that involves winning a World Series of Poker tournament.
