“Bloodshot,” “Hunt” Underperform At Box-Office

The coronavirus pandemic has slowed or outright stalled moviegoing in multiple countries, and is having an impact on attendance at North American multiplexes as well with the lowest weekend box-office in twenty years. All this week’s new openers, the last ones we’ll see for a while, have come in below expectations.

The KJ Apa-led faith-based “I Still Believe” took in $10 million and second place, the Vin Diesel-led action film “Bloodshot” was third with $7 million, and the satirical thriller “The Hunt” was fourth with $5-6 million – all about $3 million less each than was estimated this past week going by tracking figures.

Disney & Pixar’s “Onward” is set to hold the top spot for its second weekend, but is doing so with just $16 million – a 60% decline from its launch which is one of the biggest second-weekend drop-offs for a Pixar feature and follows it being the smallest domestic launch ever for a Pixar title. Teen drama “Never Rarely Sometimes Always” opened in limited release to $30,000 at four locations.

With the exception of a handful of limited releases like “The Climb,” “Deerskin,” and “Military Wives,” there are no scheduled wide releases until the animated “Trolls World Tour” and A24’s horror tale “Saint Maud” in just under four weeks time on April 10th.
