One of the few films still seemingly set for release is 20th Century Studios’ X-Men spin-off “The New Mutants” which is still on track for an April 3rd opening.
The film will most definitely not be getting a sequel, though director Josh Boone definitely has ideas for two future installments were they ever to coalesce. In fact, he reveals to EW that there already was plans in place for an end-credits scene that was set to be filmed but never happened, one that would’ve set up the first sequel.
Boone says “We always intended to do ‘New Mutants: Brazil’ as the second movie” and that each of the three films was going to be “its own unique kind of horror movie” with the first one being ‘supernatural horror’ in tone.
The scrapped end credits sequence meanwhile would have introduced a new villain, Emmanuel da Costa, who would have been played by Antonio Banderas. That would lead into the second film which would introduce both Warlock and Karma with the latter serving as the villain.
“The New Mutants” opens in cinemas April 3rd.
