One of the original mechanical shark props used in Steven Spielberg’s “Jaws,” affectionately nicknamed Bruce, has been ‘fully transformed’ in a new restoration project from Emmy winner Greg Nicotero, his studio KNB EFX, and the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures conservation team.
Bruce is the only surviving shark prop from the 1975 classic which famously had to deal with mechanical sharks constantly malfunctioning. In 2016, Bruce’s owner Nathan Adlen bequeathed the shark to the Academy Museum – previously he’d been displayed at a junkyard.
The Academy Museum says this will be the fourth and final version of the shark which was made from the original model. It will be a part of the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures which opens sometime after the Oscars in February 2020.
