Will Smith is reportedly in early talks to play the Genie in the live-action remake of Disney’s classic 1992 animated feature “Aladdin”.
Smith is the first actor whose negotiations for the film have been reported in the media. A worldwide casting call is underway for the film’s two lead roles with Middle Eastern actors and actresses sought to play the roles of Aladdin and Princess Jasmine.
Should he sign he would take on one of the most iconic roles of late comedian Robin Williams who voiced the blue-skinned magical being’s role in the original.
Guy Ritchie is helming the film which aims to begin filming in June in the UK and will shoot through to early 2018. John August is adapting the script which will keep the musical elements of the original.
Smith was also previously in talks for Disney’s live-action “Dumbo” film but that didn’t work out.
