Warner Bros. Pictures is closing deals with seven of the eight women they’re assembling for their female-driven caper spin-off feature “Ocean’s Eight” says Deadline.
Sandra Bullock plays the ex-con sister of George Clooney’s Danny Ocean in a film in which she assembles a team of thieves to steal a necklace from the Met Ball in order to frame a duplicitous gallery owner. Cate Blanchett plays her right-hand woman.
Joining them are Anne Hathaway, Rihanna, Helena Bonham Carter, Mindy Kaling and Awkwafina (aka. Asian American rapper and actress Nora Lum). Gary Ross helms the project from a script he co-wrote with Olivia Milch. The new film could feature cameos from the stars of the “Ocean’s 11” trilogy. Steven Soderbergh, who helmed those films, returns as producer.
The report does not mention Elizabeth Banks who was linked to the project last month. Filming aims to begin this October.
