USA Network has handed out a straight-to-series order for “Treadstone,” an upcoming TV series spin-off of the Jason Bourne franchise based on the novels by Robert Ludlum. Originally ordered to pilot back in April, the network is now opting to go into full series production with the first season to be shot next year.
The series centers on the fictional CIA black ops program Operation Treadstone which created superspy Jason Bourne. The first season follows sleeper agents across the globe as they’re mysteriously ‘awakened’ to resume their deadly missions.
The series is written and executive produced by Tim Kring while Ramin Bahrani will direct the pilot and also serve as an executive producer. Ben Smith, Jeffrey Weiner, Dan Friedkin, Justin Levy and Bradley Thomas will executive produce.
The pick up comes one day after USA cancelled its drama “Shooter,” based on the 2007 Mark Wahlberg-led film, after three seasons.
