Distribution rights for the upcoming “Slender Man” horror film are on the block following producers heated disagreements with Sony Pictures over its planned release.
Basically Sony is pushing it as a low-budget, Blumhouse-esque release. Producers, however, are much more confident and want a wider release and bigger marketing push – and Sony is not willing to spend more on it.
So the producers have triggered a clause in their contract which allows them to solicit higher offers and have shown the film to several other studios and streaming giants. However, it is said those companies are also sceptical about the nearly completed picture’s commercial potential.
This comes after Sony has already debuted a trailer and released posters and promotional images. The head of Sony’s Screen Gems division wants to release the film, but the studio is also concerned about social media backlash. Joey King, Jaz Sinclair, and Julia Goldani Telles star in the film which presently remains set for an August 24th opening.
