With the release of “Spider-Man: Far From Home” next week and the success of “Venom” last year, talk is once again stirring about Sony potentially pursuing their own Marvel cinematic universe.
One of the projects that was previously talked about a few years ago, and then seemingly abandoned, was a “Black Cat” one centered on the character of Felicia Hardy.
Speaking to ScreenRant this week, producer Amy Pascal was asked about that film’s status at present and she confirms she’s still pursuing the film which would effectively be about the Marvel equivalent of Catwoman:
“I like Black Cat a lot, I think she is a really great character. We had her a little bit in the Amazing [Spider-Man] movie, but she’s kind of that character that we didn’t really turn into the Black Cat yet. I think that’s a really great character. We’re still working on that. I think we have plans for that.”
The film was at one point set to be a team-up film called “Silver and Black” which would have co-starred Silver Sable, but then that feature was abandoned into two films and then ultimately one focused entirely on “Black Cat”. Gina Prince-Bythewood was once attached as director.
The next Spidey spin-off film in the works is the Jared Leto-led “Morbius” which has been filming in recent months ahead of an early 2020 opening.
