Meryl Streep Joins Soderbergh’s “Laundromat”

Following word earlier this morning that Gary Oldman and Antonio Banderas were in early talks, now comes the news that Meryl Streep is set to star in Steven Soderbergh’s “The Laundromat” feature.

Frequent Soderbergh collaborator Scott Z. Burns wrote the script based on the book “Secrecy World” which deals with The Panama Papers scandal. Leaked documents showed how Panamanian law firm Mossack Fonseca allowed the wealthy and the connected to funnel money illegally in and around the world.

Streep’s character is said to be the “emotional throughline” of the movie. Michael Sugar, Lawrence Grey, Gregory Jacobs, Soderbergh and Burns are producing. No distribution is on board but Netflix is one of several potentials said to be interested.
