Filmmaker Mike Dougherty has confirmed that the first theatrical trailer for “Godzilla: King of the Monsters” will premiere online next week. The clip will be the second overall trailer for the film following the first at San Diego Comic-Con in July which was met with some of the best reaction to a trailer for any film this year.
Dougherty appeared at Tokyo Comic-Con overnight to show off a brief 40-second teaser clip from the trailer, one with a whole bunch of new footage, along with announcing it arriving sometime in the coming week but wouldn’t indicate an exact date.
The new story follows the heroic efforts of the crypto-zoological agency Monarch as its members face off against a battery of god-sized monsters, including the mighty Godzilla, who collides with Mothra, Rodan, and his ultimate nemesis, the three-headed King Ghidorah. When these ancient super-species – thought to be mere myths – rise again, they all vie for supremacy, leaving humanity’s very existence hanging in the balance.
Kyle Chandler, Vera Farmiga, Millie Bobby Brown, Bradley Whitford, Sally Hawkins, Charles Dance, Thomas Middleditch, O’Shea Jackson Jr., Ken Watanabe, and Zhang Ziyi co-star in the film opening May 31st.
