Disney & Pixar’s “Coco” easily won the Thanksgiving holiday box office with $71.2 million over the Wednesday-Sunday period.
That’s the third-best Thanksgiving holiday opening ever, behind only “Frozen” ($93M) and “Moana” ($82M). Reviews for the film were very strong with an A+ CinemaScore and strong critical aggregate scores.
The film handily beat out “Justice League” which has generated around $60 million over the same period, bringing its ten day total to $172 million which has already put it in the top 15 of titles released in 2017. “Wonder” came in third with a further $32 million, bringing its total to $69 million – over three times the film’s $20M budget.
In limited release, potential awards candidate “Call Me by Your Name” had the highest per-screen average opening of the year (and any film since “La La Land”) with $101,219 per screen across four screens over the Friday to Sunday period (the film opened on Friday).
