With CinemaCon on this week, the topic of movie subscription service MoviePass is set to come up numerous times. While exhibitors haven’t been keen on the third-party service, they may respond to it in a way others have suggested – offer their own monthly movie ticket subscription service.
Deadline reports that both the distribution and exhibition industries are open-minded when it comes to hammering out a monthly movie ticket plan, and both are motivated by not wanting to give up a portion of their box office returns to a third party.
These subscriptions could also offer things MoviePass cannot such as 3D and IMAX tickets. However, the big questions would be an appropriate subscription price point and ticket allotment monthly. The talk comes as shares in MoviePass continue to fall with Proactiv Investors reporting that shares of the information technology company fell 11% in pre-market trading on Monday.
