Amazon Studios is developing the darkly comic animated series “The Hospital” which Natasha Lyonne and Maya Rudolph’s Animal Pictures will produce. Cirocco Dunlap created the series about two brilliant female alien doctors who specialize in rare sci-fi illnesses. When one defies protocol, she contracts a disease from another dimension and they must find a cure before the universe is destroyed.

The streaming giant has also issued a two-season order for “Fairfax,” an animated series which follows four middle school best friends on a never-ending quest for clout on L.A.’s titular Fairfax Avenue – the ‘pulsing heart of hypebeast culture’. Matt Hausfater, Aaron Buchsbaum, and Teddy Riley created the series with studio Titmouse (“Big Mouth”) handling the animation for the two sets of eight half-hour episodes.

L.A. Ultra
Freeform has begun development of the one-hour black comedy neo-noir series “LA Ultra” from producer Dennis Saldua (“The Passage”) and creator Liz Heldens. The story centers on the mysterious disappearance of an actress and the unlikely Angelenos who have the best chance of finding her… her stand-in and the set cop. Their chaotic investigation takes the duo deep into the surreal and seedy LA, as they begin to uncover a dark conspiracy.

From the Cold
Netflix is readying the supernatural-themed international spy thriller drama “From the Cold” which has Margarita Levieva (“Allegiance,” “The Blacklist”) set to star. The project has received an eight-episode series order and begins shooting in March in Madrid, Spain.

Adam Glass (“The Chi”) serves as showrunner on that series in which the CIA forces Levieva’s American single mother character to confront her long-buried past as a former KGB spy with special abilities granted to her by an experiment. After a mysterious string of murderous incidents suggests someone with her abilities is targeting innocent people, she is forced out of hiding to stop this villain or risk losing the new life she has built.
