“The Omen” Prequel May Yet Live

A while back came word that 20th Century Fox was working on a prequel to Richard Donner’s iconic 1976 horror feature “The Omen”.

That talk however was a while back, and with many projects in development at Fox scrapped after Disney acquired the studio there was a natural assumption it had also been discarded.

This week however, “The Conjuring” scribes Chad and Carey Hayes indicated that the project may still be alive. Chad Hayes told ComicBook.com:

“We did the prequel to The Omen, which is also sitting over at Fox, that, rumor has it, that it is going into production. So we’ll see what happens. We get to tell you where Damien came from. It was really fun. That was great.”

Antonio Campos was linked to direct the prequel way back in 2016, it’s unlikely he’s still attached.

How it would work also isn’t clear beyond the obvious showing of the circumstances leading up to and including Damien’s birth. Trouble is, in canon it states his father was Satan and his real mother was a jackal, and Disney isn’t exactly known for including bestiality in its films. Damien’s powers also didn’t really start to manifest until the first film.

The original film became a franchise that delivered three sequels, a reboot and a TV series.
