Popular TikTok filmmaker Savanah Moss is teaming with creator-led studio Tongal on a feature film based on the online creepypasta figure ‘Jeff the Killer’ reports The Wrap.
Jeff the Killer was first introduced in 2008, a 13-year-old serial killer who started a killing spree after his face was disfigured by bullies. The figure has an unnaturally smooth white face, black eyes and exposed red gums.
Moss is best known for her comedy and horror ‘fever dream’ videos and wrote, co-directed and starred in the short film “Funny Bunny” which has played at festivals.
Moss will help shape the creative direction for Jeff the Killer and will work with Tongal to allow emerging filmmakers to participate throughout the movie’s development process. Moss says in a statement:
“We have this unique opportunity to take the character everyone knows and loves and create a truly terrifying, grounded horror film, while still staying true to Jeff’s origin. I don’t just want to recreate the creepypasta — I want to make Jeff feel terrifyingly real.”
Already, creatives worldwide can visit Tongal’s site to pitch character concepts for the first open project on the film.
The film marks the latest trend of studios adapting online horror stories into movies in the wake of A24’s major success with “Backrooms” and various YouTube filmmakers delivering hits like “Obsession”.
