Teaser Trailer: HBO & DC’s “Lanterns” Series

HBO

So much for waiting. HBO has gone early with the premiere of the first trailer for its live-action Green Lantern series “Lanterns”.

The clip release follows just a few hours after the premium cabler teased a trailer launch tomorrow. That launch appears to have been scuttled, and the trailer was pushed online early following a leak of the full copy by fans.

The story follows two legendary Green Lanterns, Hal Jordan (Kyle Chandler) and John Stewart (Aaron Pierre), as they unravel a dark, Earth-bound mystery related to a murder in the American Mid-West.

Though set within James Gunn and Peter Safran’s new DC Universe, the tone is said to be akin to “True Detective” and other gritty dramas – and the trailer seems to confirm that, even as bits of Lantern lore like the rings and lanters appear.

Kelly Macdonald, Ulrich Thomsen, Garret Dillahunt, Jason Ritter, J. Alphonse Nicholson, Nicole Ari Parker and Nathan Fillion co-star in the series, which was shot in Los Angeles last year. Fillion will be reprising his role as the Green Lantern Guy Gardener which he played in last year’s “Superman” film.

The series is co-written by Chris Mundy, Damon Lindelof and Tom King with the first two episodes directed by James Hawes. The series will launch on HBO in August.
