Penélope Cruz, Kieran Culkin, Jude Law, Owen Wilson and Emma Mackey are set to lead the cast of the newest directorial effort of famed filmmaker Nancy Meyers.
After at least two years of negotiations, “The Holiday” and “Something’s Gotta Give” director has secured a cast and a distributor in Warner Bros. Pictures for her untitled new feature.
In addition, Warner Bros. has already locked in a release date with the movie set for a Christmas Day 2027 release. The project will mark Meyers’ first film since 2015’s “The Intern”.
The project was initially set up at Netflix but was shut down in early 2023 over budgetary concerns – Meyers wanted at least $150 million, and Netflix set a ceiling at $130 million.
It was a steep price tag for the genre either way, but multiple stars were circling at the time, including Cruz, Wilson, Michael Fassbender, and Scarlett Johansson.
That version followed a young writer-director who falls in love with a producer, has several successful films together, then breaks up before being forced back together for a high-stakes project with volatile stars.
The new version is expected to have changed, but it’s not clear by how much, as a synopsis is not being released. Trade sources have indicated the previous description wasn’t correct. Details of the film’s budget at Warner Bros. have also not been disclosed.
