James Franco Joins “John Rambo” Cast

Netflix

After years away from major films, actor James Franco is returning, with the actor having joined the cast of the new “John Rambo” film.

Variety reports that Franco will only have a small role in the feature, which was shot in Thailand from January through to March.

Noah Centineo (“The Recruit,” “Street Fighter”) stars in a story set during the Vietnam War, years before the events of “First Blood,” with Rambo a soldier fighting a war in the jungle.

David Harbour takes on the role of Major Sam Trautman, Rambo’s commanding officer. Yao, Jason Tobin, Quincy Isaiah, Jefferson White and Tayme Thapthimthong co-star.

“Sisu” helmer Jalmari Helander directs the project from a script by Rory Haines and Sohrab Noshirvani (“Black Adam,” “The Mauritanian”). Sylvester Stallone and Anthony and Joe Russo executive produce.

The now 48-year-old Franco is currently attending the Cannes Film Festival and hinted the other day he’d recently wrapped a role in an unnamed ‘big studio movie’ – his first since an uncredited cameo in “Alien: Covenant” in 2017, and being part of the ensemble of “The Ballad of Buster Scruggs” back in 2018.
