“Heated Rivalry, “Widow’s Bay” Top TCA Noms

HBO Max

HBO Max’s “Heated Rivalry” and “Industry,” and Apple TV’s “Widow’s Bay” topped this year’s list of nominees for the Television Critics Association awards. All three shows scored five nominations each from the voting members.

Both streaming services dominated the field with HBO Max’s “Hacks” and “The Pitt” and Apple TV’s “Pluribus” coming in next with four; while HBO’s “The Comeback” and Apple TV’s “Margo’s Got Money Troubles” and “Shrinking” scored three nominations each.

Aside from ‘Margo’, all of those aforementioned shows are competing for the top award of Program of the Year alongside CBS’ “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert”.

Other shows which landed one or two nominations include “Alien: Earth,” “The Beast in Me,” “Beef,” “The Chair Company,” “Death by Lightning,” “DTF St. Louis,” “The Fall and Rise of Reggie Dinkins,” “The Gilded Age,” “Half Man,” “Lord of the Flies,” “The Lowdown,” “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms,” “Paradise,” “Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord” and “Task”.

Notable omissions included “The Bear,” “The Diplomat,” “Fallout,” “Only Murders in the Building,” “Slow Horses,” and “Wonder Man”. There will be no in-person ceremony for the TCA Awards this year with winners announced later this summer just ahead of Emmy nominations.

“Heated Rivalry” has made headlines for not being allowed to be nominated for Emmys as there is no U.S. ownership – HBO Max only licenses the title from Canada’s Crave. If HBO were to come onboard as co-producer that could make it eligible, but HBO has said there are no plans to.
