Taking a break from all the TV series he produces, “Love, Simon” helmer Greg Berlanti has signed on to direct and produce an upcoming biopic about actor Rock Hudson.
Based on the memoir “All That Heaven Allows” by Mark Griffin, the story deals with the iconic leading man and closeted gay star of many romantic comedies for Universal in the 1950s and 1960s. His death via AIDS-related complications in 1985 lead to some of the earliest public discussions about the AIDS crisis and gay actors being forced to hide their sexuality.
Sarah Schechter and Sherry Marsh will produce and a writer is currently being sought. Berlanti just set the record for the most planned live-action scripted series to air in one year with 15 series at Warner Bros. TV across all of their digital, streaming and network services.
