Enos On Potential “World War Z 2” Return

Paramount Pictures

The 2013 zombie action film “World War Z” was a commercial success, pulling in $540 million to become the highest-grossing zombie film of all time.

It also had production issues which led to a reshot third act and a fairly costly budget said to be well over $200 million.

A sequel was announced though shortly after, but after several years of stalled development (including David Fincher considering directing it), it was officially shelved over budgetary concerns and China’s ban on zombie films.

So it came as a surprise at CinemaCon the other week when Paramount officially announced that a sequel was again in the works – no director, writer or cast revealed at the time and no dates set.

While Brad Pitt was the headline star, “The Killing” actress Mireille Enos was the female lead as the wife of Pitt’s character with both surviving events on screen.

Enos has been out doing press in recent weeks for the new season of Apple TV’s “For All Mankind” and was asked by Screen Rant if she’d be up for returning:

There have been different versions, hopeful versions over these past 15 years. So we’ll see. The past conversations about a second World War Z did include my character, but I have no official information at this time.”

She adds “I hope” that the new movie happens and a reunion with Pitt “would be incredible” but “the truth” is she has no insight at this time.

A lot will depend on wht approach the studio takes as Max Brooks’ original novel still has plenty of material and lore that didn’t make the jump to the big screen in the prior adaptation.

Pitt reportedly remains involved as a producer on the new film.
