Executives at Paramount Skydance have reportedly discussed asking Elon Musk for a potential investment in the studio as it moves forward with its acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery.
The report hails from Semafor (via Equity Tea) and says that while it’s only ‘preliminary’, Paramount seeks fresh sources of cash and discussions have included seeking equity investment from several wealty individuals – including Musk.
The latest report also claims that Paramount CEO David Ellison may approach Musk due to his longstanding ties to David’s father and Oracle founder Larry Ellison. Larry invested $1 billion in Musk’s X deal to take Twitter private.
Larry is partly involved in Paramount’s $110 billion takeover of Warner Bros. Discovery and previously personally guaranteed over $46 billion of the equity financing for the acquisition.
The company recently settled an antitrust lawsuit initially filed by the Attorneys General of twelve states, the last major hurdle preventing the deal from going through.
Under the agreement, certain guardrails for CNN are in place, along with financial penalties tied to Ellison’s promise to deliver 30 movies a year along with investments of $1.5 billion in U.S. film production and in protecting and creating jobs.
