Brendan Fraser was 29 when he shot the first of “The Mummy” films for Universal Pictures.

Nearly three decades on, he’ll be reprising the role for the upcoming fourth film in the series, which is currently tracking for a release on October 15th 2027. Fellow franchise co-stars Rachel Weisz and John Hannah will join him.

The actor appeared on Jimmy Fallon’s The Tonight Show this week where he talked about returning to the franchise and indicated he’s working hard to get back into shape and the project aims to utilise some of the original locations:

We’re gonna get the band back together. The only way to do it. So, we are going to give the audience what they have been bothering all of us for, for the last twenty-whatever years.

I was hopeful for a long while, and then I was like, ‘I don’t know if they are.’ Then other ‘Mummy’ movies got made. But listen, what we’re gonna do is saddle back up, go back to the locations — I should probably stop talking like this, because I don’t want to give everything away.

Please wish me luck. I’m doing my best to get this 57-year-old gear in shape.”

The project will mark Fraser’s first action movie in years following a recent career resurgence in more dramatic roles in “The Whale,” “Killers of the Flower Moon,” “Rental Family” and “Pressure”.
