“Scorpion” creator Nick Santora will adapt Lee Child ‘s best-selling novels into a TV series for Amazon’s Prime Video platform which recently won the rights in a competitive bidding situation.
The project is in development with a script-to-series deal and Santora will serve as showrunner and adapt the books which have sold more than 100 million copies to date and follows a military veteran who lives a nomadic life as a freelance investigator and problem-solver.
Child, who penned the two dozen or so Reacher novels to date, told BBC Radio in November that he had just signed a deal to make a “Jack Reacher” TV series for a streaming service but wouldn’t say who. He also promised the title character of the series will be a much closer approximation of the book character who is very tall, blond and built like a tank.
The previous two films, which starred Tom Cruise as Reacher, have grossed $380 million worldwide and were based on the tenth and eighteenth novels in the series respectively. Some of the same team is returning including the first film’s writer/director Christopher McQuarrie who will executive produce.
Other returning executive producers include Child, Don Granger, David Ellison, Dana Goldberg and Marcy Ross. Amazon Studios, Skydance Television and Paramount Television are all behind the new TV take.
