ABC Renews “SHIELD”, Picks Up “Agent Carter”

Ahead of the up fronts next week, ABC has issued last minute renewals, axings and new series pickups.

“Castle,” “The Goldbergs,” “Grey’s Anatomy,” “Modern Family,” “The Middle,” “Once Upon a Time,” “Revenge,” “Resurrection” and “Scandal” are all set to come back next season.

Getting the axe? Newcomers “Trophy Wife” and “Mixology” and sophomore “The Neighbors”. “Nashville,” “Last Man Standing,” “Super Fun Night” and “Suburgatory” are still undecided with the latter two likely to get the chop.

ABC is very happy with Marvel though. The network has just issued an official renewal for “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.”, and has given a series order to the “Captain America” spin-off series “Marvel’s Agent Carter”.

New series to have been given the order include “Forever” starring Ioan Gruffudd as an immortal medical examiner, the race-themed courtroom drama “American Crime” starring Timothy Hutton, the Anothony Anderson comedy “Black-Ish,” the musical fairy tale “Galavant,” the Viola Davis-led legal thriller “How to Get Away with Murder,” dating comedies “Manhattan Love Story” and “Selfie,” and the Spielberg-produced unseen alien invasion tale “The Whispers.”
