The controversy began a few days ago when Dwayne Johnson did a post on social media calling out at least one and maybe several of his “Fast 8” male co-stars. The posting was done in the midst of the final week of filming for the actor on this eighth movie in the franchise and the fourth to feature Johnson’s Luke Hobbs character.
The charismatic Johnson has always been famously magnanimous and upbeat in his social media postings, very much a believer in boosting others up rather than cutting them down which is what made his ‘Candy Asses’ labelling of at least one of these actors such a surprise. Speculation quickly grew as to whom he was referring to with several British outlets and TMZ indicating it all came down to one man – Vin Diesel.
The outlet suggests Diesel was often up to an hour late to shoot scenes, lacked a strong work ethic, and would goad people and criticise their acting. As a result the crew were siding with Johnson in this clashing of the two egos. Vin reportedly confronted Johnson the following day in The Rock’s trailer, but their issues were unresolved.
Since then Johnson softened his stance and put down the outburst to one of healthy conflict. He would not talk about whom he was referring to though:
The Rock may have wrapped, but production on “Fast 8” continues ahead of an April 14th 2017 release.
