Chris Rock will star in and co-write a remake of last year’s Brit comedy feature “Death at a Funeral” for Screen Gems and Sidney Kimmel Entertainment reports Variety.
The plan is to make an ensemble comedy about a funeral ceremony that leads to the digging up of shocking family secrets, as well as misplaced cadavers and indecent exposure.
The Dean Craig-penned and Frank Oz-directed original was set in Britain, the new film will take place in an urban American setting.
Though ignored domestically with only an $8.6 million limited release haul, the low-budget ‘Funeral’ performed well overseas where it took in a decent $38 million.
Aeysha Carr will also co-write the script with Rock and Screen Gems is seeking directors at present to begin production next spring.
