After annually ruling the Halloween weekend for years, the “Saw” franchise began to die off as audiences grew tired of the torture porn genre, favouring instead the micro-budget thrills of the “Paranormal Activity” franchise.
Now, after a three year break, Lionsgate has begun actively developing an eighth film in the franchise.
The studio is reportedly seeking a new direction for the franchise, but aren’t rushing to meet a date – instead, they’re waiting until they have “the perfect take to move forward”.
The studio was originally considering a remake/reboot, but instead have opted for a sequel that will potentially take the franchise in a new direction.
