Fox 2000 is in final negotiations to acquire the film rights to “Maine” and “Commencement” author J. Courtney Sullivan’s upcoming novel “The Engagements”.
Set in 1948, the story follows a young copywriter named Mary Frances Gerety who created the timeless slogan – “A Diamond Is Forever,” a tag line which helped make diamonds a big part of the modern marriage proposal. Gerety herself never married.
Using her story as a backdrop, the plot delves into four connected marriages over the span of the last century and different aspects of it – divorce, infidelity, gay marriage, and modern wedding culture.
Reese Witherspoon and Bruna Papandrea will produce.
