NBC has officially given a third-season pickup order for “Hannibal,” Bryan Fuller’s highly acclaimed TV series prequel take on the Thomas Harris-penned Hannibal Lecter novels.
Despite the rave reviews, the series has only done decent numbers in the Friday 10PM slot, averaging a 1.5 rating and 3.9 million viewers in current ratings.
Yet, due to the production model it is made under with Gaumont International Television, it costs the network only a fraction of what high-end dramas with lavish looking production values like this one cost.
A VOD deal for the series is also about to kick in, which is reportedly set to make it even more advantageous for NBC to keep the show going.
