Screenwriter T.S. Nowlin is set to return to pen the third installment in 20th Century Fox’s “The Maze Runner” film franchise following the impressive $340 million global haul of the young adult franchise.
Nowlin co-wrote last year’s first film and get sole writing credit on the second, “The Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials,” which is currently in post-production and is slated to open on September 18th.
The third film, “The Maze Runner: The Death Cure,” will be based on the last novel in James Dashner’s novel trilogy. Dashner also penned “The Kill Order,” a prequel to the first book, but that’s not expected to receive an adaptation.
Unlike other young adult franchises, Fox is not stretching out this final story into two films – rather keeping it to a tight single movie.
