Apple, Hulu, Marvel

Sky’s new TV series take on “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo” is filling out its cast to join the previously announced David Oyelowo as Mikael Blomkvist and Viola Prettejohn as Lisbeth Salander.

Also coming along for the ride is acting veteran Jonathan Pryce as rich industrialist Henrik Vanger who asks Blomkvist for help solving the cold case of his niece Harriet from 40 years ago.

The rest of the Vanger family has been cast including James D’Arcy as Martin, Lena Olin as Isabella, Alun Armstrong as Harald, Jessica Raine as Cecilia and Paul Ready as Birger. Camille Cottin (“Stillwater”) will play as Blomkvist’s co-editor and lover Erika Berger.

Other cast includes Ariyon Bakare, Lee Ross, Steve Wall, Justin Salinger, Allan Corduner, Rochenda Sandall, Naomi Townsend, Ingrid Keighley, Danny Horn, Lucy Brown, Alastair Natkiel, Ewan Labram, Joseph Mason-Coombs, Daniella Arthur-Kennedy, Enzo Cilenti, Dónall Ó Héalaí and Lochlann Ó Mearáin.

This new TV adaptation of Stieg Larsson’s best-selling novel will adapt the first of the Millennium trilogy of novels and moves the story to the modern day. It follows cancelled star journalist Mikael Blomkvist (Oyelowo) and uncompromising hacker Lisbeth Salander (Prettejohn) as they investigate a cold case – Harriet Vanger.

Vanger was a young woman who vanished more than three decades ago from the secluded island home of one of Sweden’s most powerful industrial dynasties. As they delve deeper into the Vanger family’s buried past, their investigation draws them closer to a chilling threat unfolding dangerously close to them in the present.

The property has already been adapted to the screen twice – first as the 2009 Swedish-language film that launched the career of Noomi Rapace as Salander, and again in 2011 by filmmaker David Fincher with Rooney Mara in the Salander role and Daniel Craig as Blomkvist.

Sony Pictures Television and Left Bank Pictures are producing the new take which is written and executive produced by Amanda Coe, Steve Lightfoot and Angela LaManna. Reinaldo Marcus Green directs and executive produces, with Andrea Harkin and Amy Neil also directing. Shooting is underway in Lithuania.
