“Avengers: Doomsday” co-director Joe Russo says watching “Avengers: Endgame Encore” is ‘required viewing’ to understand the upcoming film.
Speaking with Fandango, Russo says the re-release next month – featuring additional footage – is “going to connect the story of the two movies”. He further explains:
“There’s a natural progression from Endgame into Doomsday, which is also inclusive of all the other stories that have been playing out. But I think it’s important to see Endgame again in theaters for two reasons: One, you’re going to have a lot of fun … and two, I think it’s required viewing for following the story in Doomsday.”
Brother and co-director Anthony Russo says: “If you saw Endgame when it was originally released, you couldn’t see this coming.”
The new film clocks in at 185 minutes – four minutes than the original film’s theatrical cut – and includes a sneak peek at “Avengers: Doomsday”.
A newly created landing page for the film at Disney+ has sparked speculation about an unexpected streaming launch – though an official streaming release date for the extended cut has not yet been revealed.
The listing arrives just days after tickets went on sale for the theatrical event. “Avengers: Endgame Encore” will be released in cinemas on September 25th.
