“The Odyssey” Hits Disc & Digital November 17th

Universal Pictures

It’s official: Universal Pictures will release Christopher Nolan’s “The Odyssey” on both disc and digital platforms on November 17th.

The title appears to be skipping a PVOD release altogether, with the studio bringing the title to both physical and digital media at the same time, according to the official site.

That’s incredibly rare, as a digital release almost always precedes a disc release. The title arrives home 123 days after its theatrical run, almost exactly in line with Nolan’s “Oppenheimer” which similarly arrived to disc and digital simultaneously four months after its theatrical premiere.

Nolan famously filmed “The Odyssey” with multiple aspect ratios in mind for the film’s release, from 1.43:1 for IMAX all the way down to 2.39:1 in some conventional cinemas. It’s expected the home video version will be a full 16×9/1.78:1 image, but that has yet to be confirmed.

The $250 million budgeted film adaptation of Homer’s epic has collected a total of $1.78 billion at the worldwide box office to date, along with scoring stellar reviews. It’s expected to be a contender in the awards race as well for the year.

Matt Damon, Anne Hathaway, Tom Holland, Robert Pattinson, Travis Scott, Corey Hawkins, Zendaya, John Leguizamo, Elliot, Mia Goth, Samantha Morton and Himesh Patel star.
