Trailer: Tom Cruise Is “Digger” Retrospective

Warner Bros. Pictures

In an unusual new promotional effort for the film, Warner Bros. Pictures has released both several posters and another teaser of “Birdman” and “The Revenant” director Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu’s new film “Digger” starring Tom Cruise.

The 20-second clip comes at the tail end of a three-minute Tom Cruise Retrospective trailer which covers almost all of the films across Cruise’s biography, including clips from films made by rival studios.

Many titles he starred in get a look including “Top Gun,” “Interview with the Vampire,” “All the Right Moves,” “Risky Business,” “Edge of Tomorrow,” “The Last Samurai,” “Magnolia,” “Collateral,” “Oblivion,” “Days of Thunder,” “Rain Man,” “Jerry Maguire,” “Born on the Fourth of July,” “Minority Report,” “Vanilla Sky,” “A Few Good Men,” “Cocktail,” “Far and Away,” “War of the Worlds,” “Tropic Thunder,” “Jack Reacher,” “Eyes Wide Shut,” “Top Gun: Maverick,” “Rock of Ages” and the various “Mission: Impossible” films.

Then comes the “Digger” footage, which draws very obvious “Dr. Strangelove” comparisons. Cruise plays a powerful man trying to convince the world he’s its saviour – before widespread destruction caused by the catastrophic consequences of his own actions.

Shot on 35mm VistaVision with Emmanuel Lubezki lensing, the film also stars Riz Ahmed, Sandra Hüller, John Goodman, and Jesse Plemons.

Inarritu co-wrote the screenplay with Nicolás Giacobone and Alexander Dinelaris, the project marking his first English-language film in a decade.

“Digger” will screen only in cinemas in October with the first proper trailer for the film set to launch online on July 13th.
